Crowder students help other students through Giving Tree program

(From Crowder College)

Crowder College Campus Life annually provides an opportunity for students to help other students through the “Giving Tree” program.

The “Giving Tree” program was established to aid students and their immediate families provide gifts and a meal during the holidays. A Christmas tree is decorated with names of children (angels) in the family for someone to adopt. The adopted family will then buy and wrap gifts that have been recommended for the child.

“Individuals, student organizations and faculty & staff will adopt one or more angels and go shopping for gifts. It is truly inspirational to see people who may not have a lot themselves buying for others,” stated Mark Aubuchon, Campus Life Director.

Campus Life holds events throughout the year to offset the expense of buying food for the families. “Some people do not want to shop for gifts, but will make a cash donation to help purchase food or gifts. All donations and assistance is appreciated,” said Aubuchon.

Applications are being accepted through Friday, Nov. 11, at noon with gifts ready for pickup Monday, December 5. To be eligible a student must be currently enrolled in 12 or more credit hours at Crowder College and qualify for Federal Pell Grant funds.

For more information or to make a donation to the Giving Tree contact Campus Life: CampusLife@Crowder.edu or 417.455.5644.
