Veterans Week activities announced at Missouri Southern

"Veterans Week" will take place Nov. 7-12 at Missouri Southern State University.

Sponsored by the Show-Me GOLD program, Student Veterans Organization, MSSU Athletics, and Student Activities, the week includes a selection of events to celebrate and support United States Veterans.


“Recognizing our veterans is very important,” says Capt. Chase Phillips, professor of military science at MSSU. “We’re proud of their contributions and we want the veterans and the public to know it.”


Activities will include the following:

 

Monday, Nov 7:

12:00 p.m. - Veteran Appreciation Luncheon hosted by Student Veterans Organization and the Missouri Army National Guard, open to the public. Contact Travis Lewis at 417-350-6491 to RSVP.

6:30 p.m. - CAB Hosted Movie Night: Black Hawk Down, open to the community free of charge.

 

Tuesday, Nov 8:

6:30 p.m. - CAB Hosted Movie Night: Hurt Locker, open to the community free of charge.

 

Thursday, Nov. 105:30 p.m. - Military Fitness Competition. $10 entry fee. Registration available at 5 p.m. the day of the competition at the Leggett & Platt Gym. Participants will receive a free shirt and ticket to Saturday’s football game. 

 

Friday, Nov 11:

12:00 p.m. - Veteran Ceremony at the MSSU Veteran monument.

5:30 p.m. - Women’s Volleyball game, Military Appreciation game. (Arrive early for 6 p.m. game.)

 

Saturday, Nov 12: 8:30 a.m. - 1 Mile Fun Run, starting line at the south parking lot. Registration available at https://localraces.com/twelveone/run-with-the-heroes

9 a.m. start time for “Run with the Heroes” 5k race, starting line at the south parking lot. Registration available at https://localraces.com/twelveone/run-with-the-heroes

3:30 p.m. - Military Appreciation Football Game, all Military ID holders enter the game free of charge. Pre-game events are military vehicle display, Veteran Services Booths, and much more. A short Veterans recognition will take place at coin toss.
