Carthage teen airlifted to Mercy Springfield after airborne truck crashes into tree

Two Carthage teens were injured in a one-vehicle accident 8:55 a.m. today on MO 96, three miles east of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2003 Ford F150 driven by Ty E. Gary, 18, Carthage, traveled off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and traveled off the left side of the roadway. Gary overcorrected again, traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch and became airborne, overturned and struck a tree, ejecting a passenger, Grant E. Trent, 16, Carthage, who was not wearing a seat belt.

Trent was airlifted to Mercy Hospital, Springfield, with serious injuries.

Gary was treated for minor injuries at Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage.
