Pittsburg man cited for drug trafficking following stop near Cherokee city limits

On the evening of January 25, 2018 Crawford County Authorities received information of suspected drug trafficking out of Colorado. A Crawford County Deputy Sheriff conducted a traffic stop on US 400 HIghway west of the Cherokee, KS city limits on a vehicle fitting the description provided. The driver was identified as Gavin Phillip Wood.

Crawford County Deputies with assistance from Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and Pittsburg Police Detectives conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and seized over 10 pounds of vegetation in large plastic bags that field tested presumptively positive as marijuana. Smaller containers of the same vegetation were seized along with what are believed to be edible forms of marijuana and cannabis wax.

Suspect: Gavin Phillip Wood, 21 years of age, Pittsburg, KS

Charges: Possession With Intent to Distribute Marijuana; Possession of Marijuana; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Wood was transported to the Crawford County Jail and is being held on a $50,000 bond.

This incident remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
