Joplin Police convince couple hiding in hot attic to surrender, arrests them on felony charges

(From the Joplin Police Department)

Incident Spotlight

This afternoon detectives received a tip that a male and female with felony warrants were together in a vehicle in town.

Detectives located them and followed them to a residence in order to arrest them.

At the residence, the female made it inside and the male saw an officer approaching and ran inside. Being that it was his residence and he wouldn’t come out, officers kicked the door in and announced for the two to come out, with no response. A K9 was sent in and cleared the residence, not finding anyone.

Officers determined the two were hiding in the attic, which had to be quite hot on a day like today. After more orders to come out were refused officers prepared to deploy gas into the attic to get a peaceful surrender. The male and female, hearing of the gas, decided to give up peacefully and came out from under the insulation of the attic.

The male was arrested for two Felony Jasper County Warrants, one for stolen property and the other for stealing a motor vehicle. He was also charged with driving while revoked today and resisting arrest. The female was arrested for her Felony Jasper County Probation Violation Warrant and resisting.
