Carthage man arrested for stealing following Street Department break-in

(From the Carthage Police Department)

On 06/11/18 at 0553 hours the Carthage Police Department received a call of a past tense burglary that occurred at 621 E. 6th, Carthage Mo.

The property is the site of Carthage Street Department. The suspect unlawfully entered the building by removing a window air conditioner unit and going through that window. Numerous items were stolen from within the building and outside the building. Some of the items stolen were power tools and a 2008 Cub Cadet Utility vehicle.

On 6/12/18 at approximately 0840 hours a Street Department employee observed the suspect Burton walking near the property that had been burglarized and recognized items he was carrying as items stolen from the burglary.

Officers arrived at that location and Kevin J. Burton, Carthage, was taken into custody at that time without incident. Detectives processed the crime scene and located video and other evidence. After interviewing the suspect, most of the stolen property has been recovered. Burton is currently in custody at the Jasper County Jail on a warrant for Stealing $3500.00 Bond and we are seeking additional burglary charges.
