Joplin man injured in three-vehicle crash at 34th and Main, dies at KU Medical Center

On August 8 at 2:38 p.m., the Joplin Police Department responded to a three-vehicle injury crash at 34th St and S. Main St. 

A 2000 Buick Century, driven by David Marbough, 72, Joplin, was traveling east on 34th St. A 2004 Lexus RX 330 driven by Deborah Fort, 60, Neosho, was traveling north on S. Main St. A 2013 Ford Explorer driven by, Nicole Villasmil, 37, Independence, Kansas, was stopped at a stop sign on 34th St, on the east side of the intersection, and facing west. 

The Buick Century failed to stop for a stop sign as it was traveling east on 34th St. The passenger side of the Buick was stuck by the front of the Lexus SUV. The front of the Buick then struck the front of the Ford Explorer while it was stopped at the stop sign.

Marbough was transported to Freeman Hospital where he was later transported to Kansas University Medical Center. Marbough died August 11 from his injuries. Fort was transported to Mercy Hospital for minor injuries. Villasmil was seen by EMS at the scene but not transported. 

The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team responded and his investigating.
