Barton County deputies, Highway Patrol investigate accident caused by flying sofa

The Barton County 911 Center received a call of a motor vehicle accident approximately one mile west of Lamar on 160 Highway.

The Barton County Ambulance, Lamar Fire Department, and deputies with the Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. 

One person was transported by personal vehicle to Cox Barton County Hospital for treatment. 

The accident is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A Pittsburg, Kansas woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident 1:55 p.m. today on U. S. 160, one mile west of Lamar.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2015 Jeep Cherokee driven by Tabatha Parker, 32, Pittsburg, was attempting to pass a 2003 GMC Sierra pickup driven by Rio I. Gardner, 28, Pittsburg, when a sofa fell out of the bed of the pickup.

Parker swerved to avoid the sofa, struck an embankment and overturned.

Parker was treated for moderate injuries at Cox Barton County, Lamar.
