Counterfeit $10 and $100 bills circulating in Joplin

(From the Joplin Police Department)

The Joplin Police Department has taken numerous reports of counterfeit money being passed or attempted to be passed at local businesses in the last couple of days.

In several cases the fake money is $10 bills and in other cases $100 bills.

We remind businesses and citizens to examine money for the proper texture, appearance and security markings to insure they don’t accept counterfeit money. We also recommend purchasing inexpensive counterfeit detection markers.

In more than one case yesterday observant businesses detected the money and the customers attempting to use it were cooperative with police. They had received the money elsewhere and were unknowingly passing it again.

As always, if you question the legitimacy of paper money you should contact your local law enforcement.
