Jasper Police teach teen drivers what to do if they are pulled over

(From the Jasper Police Department)

Jasper PD officers took some time out of their day the last couple days to help new teen drivers learn the do’s and don’ts when or if ever pulled over by law enforcement. It was a good experience and hopefully we learned somw things as well as the kids. This seems to be a very good addition to the Driver’s Ed program.

A few things to remember to make most traffic stops go as well as possible:

•Hands on steering wheel or lap... Just make sure your hands are visible to the officer.

•No subtle movements. Get driver’s license and insurance out when the officer requests it.

•Be polite... Even if you don’t like us. Most officers will be as polite as you are if not more polite. We are human and bleed the same blood as the people that we serve and protect and sometimes pull over. We have bad days as well as we need to understand you do too. It’s a lot better of an interaction when we all are polite and understanding.

•Please hang up the phone when officer approaches or at least try and hang up the phone. It’s not recommended to show the officer a finger as if he needs to wait for you to complete the call you’re on.
