Tornado warning in effect until 6 p.m. for Joplin area

The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
  Northwestern Newton County in southwestern Missouri...
  South central Jasper County in southwestern Missouri...

* Until 600 PM CDT.

* At 523 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
  was located over Saginaw, or 7 miles south of Joplin, moving
  northeast at 35 mph.

  HAZARD...Tornado.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

  IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
           shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
           Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree
           damage is likely.

This includes the following highways...
 Interstate 44 between mile markers 6 and 9, and between mile markers
12 and 23.
 Interstate 49 between mile markers 27 and 39.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.
