According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2016 Ford truck driven by David J. Cahill, 34, Spring Valley, California, failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree.
Jasper County Coroner Rob Chapel pronounced Cahill dead at the scene at 1:20 a.m. today.
A passenger, Mark A. Frazier, 37, Oronogo, was flown to Mercy Hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.
