Joplin teen, Carthage woman killed, two others seriously injured in head-on crash on HH

Two people were killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle collision 7:28 p.m. Thursday, on Route HH, two miles west of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, an eastbound 2008 Ford Taurus driven by Baylee C. Shorter, 24, Carthage, crossed the centerline and struck a westbound 1999 Honda CRV driven by Jessica J. Batie, 17, Joplin.








Deputy Jasper County Coroner George Woodard pronounced Batie dead at the scene at 7:43 p.m.

Shorter was taken to Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage, where Dr. Charles Featherly pronounced her dead at 9:13 p.m.

A passenger in the Shorter vehicle, Makayla D. Suter, 17, Joplin, and a passenger in the Batie vehicle, a 12-year-old girl, were taken to Mercy McCune-Brooks with serious injuries.
