Jasper Police Report: Joplin man charged with DWI after asking officers to shoot him

(From the Jasper Police Department)

On Tuesday, July 14, 2020 around 10:30 pm, Jasper PD Sgt. Amber Ashby was asked to assist Jasper County Sheriff's Office in reference to trespassing out near Thorn Rd. and CR 170.

After being given a description of the vehicle, Sgt. Ashby came across the vehicle at Thorn and CR 150 just before the driver entered Jasper city limits. A stop was initiated by Sgt. Ashby.

Contact was made with the driver, Micheal Kannard, Joplin.

After observing signs of driving while intoxicated, a JCSO deputy advised Kannard that he was under arrest for probable cause of driving while intoxicated.

At this time, Kannard became uncooperative. He was irate and acting in a threatening manner towards Sgt. Ashby and the deputy.

At one point, it is told that he was encouraging law enforcement to shoot him with their firearms. Eventually a taser was deployed and a physical struggle took place. Kannard was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Jasper County Jail by JCSO deputies.
