Newsmakers, KGCS to focus on George Washington Carver National Monument

(From Southern News Service)

Officials with KGCS-TV at Missouri Southern State University and George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, MO, are working together to highlight the national monument next week.

Normally, “Carver Day” is celebrated in July, but park officials had to postpone this year’s event due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, they plan to highlight events, virtually, on the park’s Facebook page – while KGCS will broadcast a number of programs about Carver and previous “Carver Day” celebrations.

“When we heard the event was postponed, we looked into how we could help reach more people in sharing the story of Carver,” said Judy Stiles, KGCS general manager.

“We’re glad to be able to share these programs highlighting Carver and his accomplishments.”

The programs will begin airing in the evenings the week of Sunday, July 12. In addition, Park Ranger Curtis Gregory will be the guest on the next edition of “Newsmakers,” which will also air in the evenings next week.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21. It is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
