Closure at intersection of 44th Street and Connecticut to begin Monday

(From the City of Joplin)

The intersection of 44th Street & Connecticut Avenue will be closed to westbound and southbound traffic starting Monday, July 27 as this road widening project continues. This closure will remain in effect into fall this year.

Traffic on 44th Street coming from Range Line Road will be limited to turning northbound on Connecticut Avenue, while travelers coming south from 32nd Street will be directed back to the east on 44th Street.

Homeowners in this area will still have access to their homes. Also, as a part of this closure, the west leg of Richard Joseph Boulevard will be closed, with detour signage set up to direct traffic to use the east leg of Richard Joseph.

The project to widen 44th Street, from Connecticut Avenue east to Range Line Road, and Connecticut Avenue from the bridge over Interstate 44, south to 44th Street began in Spring 2019. It includes a five-lane road, with a sidewalk and shared use path, as well as a roundabout at the intersection of 44th and Connecticut Avenue.

This project is funded through the 3/8 cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax approved by voters in 2014. D&E Plumbing Company is the contractor.
