(From Southern News Service)The Chart, the campus newspaper at Missouri Southern State University, won eight awards during the 2021 Missouri College Media Association contest.
The awards, which were announced on April 9 during the association’s annual convention, honor the best work by college newspapers, yearbooks and news websites across Missouri during the 2020 calendar year.
Members of The Chart’s staff competed in the Division 2 newspaper and advertising categories.
“I’m so proud of what our student journalists achieve every year,” said Miles Sari, visiting professor of communication and adviser for the newspaper. “The Chart has a tradition of excellence, and the recognition our students received from the Missouri College Media Association is a testament to the quality of immersive learning experiences in the Communication Department.”
Quinten Sargent, a junior mass communications major from Joplin, received first place in the Feature Photography category; second place for Information Graphic; and honorable mention in Feature Page.
Madalyn Richardson, a senior art history major from Granby, took first place in Advertising Design and third place for Story Illustration.
Andre Louque, a senior mass communications major from Olathe, Kan., took third place in the Sports Column category.
Cally Chisholm, a mass communication major from Clinton, Tenn., who graduated in 2020, took second place for Editorial/Op-Ed Page.
In addition, Sargent and Richardson took second place for Page One Design.
