Hunt for dangerous federal fugitive causes changes in procedures at Webb City schools

(From the Webb City Police Department)

On Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 12:43 hours officers with the Webb City Police Department were called to the 700 block of North Liberty in Webb City to assist deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office in attempting to apprehend a dangerous federal fugitive.

Due to the proximity of the house to Madge T. James, Webster Primary, and Webb City Middle schools, we notified officials with the school district.

Alternate pick up plans for student dismissal were put into place. Even though the situation was resolved prior to dismissal time, the decision was made to continue with the alternate pickup plan.

The fugitive was not located in the 700 block of North Liberty; however the fugitive was taken into custody without incident in Joplin.

We appreciate the working relationship between law enforcement and the school district to rapidly adapt as the situation evolved. The safety of our students and citizens is a priority. We appreciate everyone’s patience while we dealt with today’s incident.
