Glenn Dolence Leadership Awards presented at Missouri Southern

The recipients of the 2021 Glenn Dolence Leadership Awards were announced during a ceremony held April 6 at Missouri Southern State University.

Sponsored by Student Services and Omicron Delta Kappa, the awards are presented to graduating students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills on campus and have made a difference in campus organizations, student employment, student services or athletics.

Jordan Gibson, a biology preprofessional-medicine major from Raymore, Mo., was recognized as Leader of the Year.

A letter nominating her for the recognition praised her for her willingness to get involved and take the lead to make sure everything is done to accomplish a task: “She has definitely maximized her time at MSSU and has given a great deal of service back to the university.”

Gibson has served as president of Omicron Delta Kappa, president of Southern Ambassadors and as parliamentarian on Student Senate. She is also a member of the Campus Activities Board, Caduceus Club, MSSU Wildlife Society, Women in Science and Zeta Tau Alpha.

Off campus, she has been involved at Rock Brook Church, the Truman Medical Center and is an Emergency Medical Technician and registered firefighter.

The awards are named in honor of Dr. Glenn Dolence, former vice president for Student Services at Missouri Southern, who retired in 1996 after 27 years of service. He was a founding member of the Golden Crest Circle of ODK. He later served as mayor of Webb City, Mo., and held a variety of other posts in the community.
