(From the Joplin Fire Department)
The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported Structure Fire at 2010 S Bird Ave at 7:37 PM Monday, April 14, 2014. Fire crews arrived on the scene at 7:42 PM to find a two story residential structure with heavy smoke showing. The fire was contained to one room but smoke spread throughout the house.
The fire was declared under control at 8:10 PM and out at 8:30 PM. Crews remained on scene until 11:01 PM.
The home is owned by Victoria Kitchenham and occupied by Christopher Patton. Mr. Patton state he was upstairs and heard a loud explosion and the house shook. He went to the bottom of the stairs and the smoke was too thick, so he went back up the stairs and went out onto the balcony and jumped off the roof to the ground. He stated he thought the furnace blew up.
No injuries were reported to either fire personnel or others in the area. Five Joplin Fire units and 20 Joplin Fire personnel responded, as well as JPD and METS.
