Southern jazz combos to perform twice this week

(From Southern News Service)

The Southern Jazz Combos from Missouri Southern State University will offer two performances this week.
The jazz combos will offer a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall. Three student combos will perform a variety of selections, including “Blue Bossa,” “Straight No Chaser,” “St. Thomas,” “Recorda-Me” and “Beautiful Love.”
Vocalists Devri Brock and Brooke Henry will sing “When I Fall in Love,” “Girl from Ipanema,” “Black Coffee” and other jazz standards.
The three student combos will perform again at 6 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Gusano’s, 3929 E. Seventh St.
“This is an opportunity for people in the community to listen to our jazz combos in a more relaxed atmosphere,” said Dr. Phillip C. Wise, director of jazz studies. “I encourage folks to come out to relax, enjoy a pizza and listen to some jazz.”
Both performances are free and open to the public. However, reservations are encouraged at Gusano’s. Call 417-623-9090 and request seating near the jazz combos.
