A recent statewide report shows that Missouri Southern State University’s Teacher Education Department has the seventh highest overall pass rate in the state.
Dr. Deborah Brown, dean of the School of Education, and Lorinda Hackett, interim chair of the Teacher Education Department, gave MSSU’s Board of Governors details on the program during the board meeting on Friday, Oct. 16.
Their report came in the wake of new figures on the Teacher Education program’s Missouri Content Assessment pass rate. The figures come from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Missouri Southern had the third-largest number of students passing among the top seven.
“We’re very pleased to see these figures,” Brown said.
Brown told the board that officials from the Council for Accreditation of Education (CAEP) began their review of Missouri Southern in a visit to the area Sept. 27-29.
Evaluators visited the Missouri Southern campus and talked to administrators and teachers at local schools. The goal of the visit was to assess performance of MSSU graduates in their subject areas.
Brown said Missouri Southern will be the first school in Missouri to meet new standards for evaluation.
Results of the accreditation visit will be announced in April 2016.
