A Stark City man was killed in a one-vehicle accident 6:49 p.m. Thursday on Kentucky Road, a half mile south of Granby.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Ford 500 driven by Cecil R. Roberts, 59, Stark City, traveled off the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Deputy Coroner Brian Artherton. A passenger, William R. Dornan, 28, Tulsa, Oklahoma, was treated for minor injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
The fatality was the 98th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
