(From the City of Joplin)
With Oktoberfest being held in the downtown area this weekend, areas of Main Street will be closed at various times Friday afternoon through Saturday night.
On Friday, October 23, Main Street will be closed from 2nd Street to 7th Street, starting at 3:30 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m. During this time, 2nd Street will remain open for east and west traffic. 6th Street west of Main Street will be closed from Main Street to the alley from 3:30 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Saturday.
On Saturday, October 24, Main Street will be closed from 2nd Street to 7th Street. This closure is from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. There will not be any Main Street access from the adjacent streets throughout the day.
Due to the closures, the Sunshine Lamp Trolley has announced several relocations of stops in the downtown area. These include:
Friday: Library stop is moved to the Economic Security Office, at the southwest corner of 3rd and Joplin Avenue; and City Hall stop will be at Empire District building on the southwest corner of 6th and Joplin Avenue. (These relocations are the same as those established during Third Thursday events.)
Saturday: The Library stop will again move to the Economic Security Office, at the southwest corner of 3rd and Joplin Avenue. Other Trolley stops along the route are not affected.
We encourage everyone to please use caution while in the downtown area during these times and to enjoy the Oktoberfest event. For more information about this event, please go to https://www.facebook.com/oktoberfestjoplin
