Missouri Southern activities for October 26-October 31

The annual Safe Halloween event is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, on the third floor of Billingsly Student Center at Missouri Southern State University.
Sponsored by Residence Life, Student Activities and the Beimdiek Recreation Center, it will feature trick-or-treating, carnival-style games, a pumpkin patch and members of the 501stLegion in full “Star Wars” costume in support of their annual toy drive. The event is free and open to the public.
Other Halloween-themed events on campus next week include a series of scary movies offered by the Campus Activities Board and a screening of original horror films submitted for a festival sponsored by Southern Broadcasters.
Monday, Oct. 26
“Texas Chainsaw Massacre”: 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre in Billingsly Student Center. Free candy and drinks will be provided by the Campus Activities Board. Rated R.
Tuesday, Oct. 27
Career Coach Series – Leadership Luncheon: 12:20 to 12:50 p.m., Room 309 of Billingsly Student Center. Industry professionals will speak to students, faculty, staff and alumni about how to succeed in the workplace. Lunch will be provided.
“The Blair Witch Project”: 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre. Rated R.
“Los Santos Inocentes”: 7 p.m., Plaster Hall’s Cornell Auditorium. The unrated film focuses on the harsh life of poor farmers in contrast with that of the wealthy family on whose land they work and serve. The screening is part of the International Film Festival.
Wednesday, Oct. 28
Lion Pride Toy Drive: Noon to 5 p.m., campus Oval. Bring new or gently used toys and get a picture with a Stormtrooper. Student organizations will offer children’s activities such as tug-of-war, pumpkin painting and more.
“Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride”: 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre. Rated PG.
Thursday, Oct. 29
“The Gallows”: 2:30 and 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre. Rated R.
Junior Clarinet Recital: 5 p.m., Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall. Instrumental education major Paige Burris will perform.
Friday, Oct. 30
Safe Halloween: 6 to 8 p.m., third floor of Billingsly Student Center.
“Monsters Inc.”: 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre. Rated G.
Horror Film Festival: 7 p.m., Corley Auditorium. The Southern Broadcasters Club sought submissions of original horror films from the campus and community and will screen them during the festival. Tickets are $5 at the door, or $3 with student ID.
Saturday, Oct. 31
Women’s Soccer vs. Central Oklahoma: 1 p.m., Hal Bodon Field.
Volleyball vs. Nebraska-Kearney: 4 p.m., Robert Young Gymnasium.
