Three arrested for DWI during weekend checkpoint

On Saturday October 24th, 2015 the Joplin Police Department along with members of the Southwest Missouri DWI Task Force and the support of MADD hosted DWI checkpoints at 34th and Hearnes and at 1100 N. Main

The goals of the checkpoint were to:

1. Detect and apprehend impaired drivers
2. Raise Awareness to the dangers of Driving while intoxicated or impaired.
3. Encourage people to plan events and alternate transportation accordingly.

The checkpoints were in service from 9:20 pm to 2:00 am Sunday morning. One thousand six hundred forty-six drivers were contacted; 42 field sobriety tests were conducted on subjects

3 -DWI’s
38 -total tickets
36 -warnings
1 –felony warrant
3 –possession of marijuana
9 -total arrests

This checkpoint was funded through a grant provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division.
