Missouri Southern is ready to “Bring Home the Pride” for the Homecoming 2015 celebration.
From annual traditions such as the campus picnic, royalty coronation and Homecoming parade to a performance by comedian Alingon Mitra and a dance party, there are activities for students, Lions fans and the community to enjoy.
Other events planned next week include the continuation of the International Film Festival, a presentation on modern Spanish literature and performances of “Carmen” by the Heartland Opera Theatre.
Tuesday, Oct. 20
“Spirit of the Beehive”: 7 p.m., Cornell Auditorium in Plaster Hall. The 1973 film is set after the end of the Spanish Civil War and follows a young girl who enters deeply into nightmares and fantasies. Not rated.
Wednesday, Oct. 21
Modern Spanish Literature: 9 a.m., Phelps Theatre. Members of the English Department faculty will share examples of important literature from 1898 through how democratic influence shaped literature after Franco’s era.
Major & Minor Fair: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., second floor of Billingsly Student Center. Students will be able to explore different career options during the event sponsored by Advising, Counseling and Testing Services.
Alington Mitra: 7 p.m., Corely Auditorium in Webster Hall. The comedian has been featured on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” “Conan” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.”
Thursday, Oct. 22
Live DJ Party: 7 to 10 p.m., Student Life Center. Students will enjoy a “silent party” with competing DJ sets transmitted over wireless headphones.
Friday, Oct. 23
Keifer Thompson in conversation: 10 a.m., Corley Auditorium. Thompson, one half of the country duo Thompson Square and this year’s Outstanding Alumnus, will participate in a moderated discussion about his career.
Homecoming Picnic: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the Oval. Free for campus community with ID, $6.50 for the public.
Royalty Coronation: Noon, on the Oval.
All Alumni Awards Dinner: 6:30 p.m., Twin Hills Country Club. Cost is $25. Details: 417-659-5466.
