An O'Fallon man was killed in a one-vehicle accident 6:20 p.m. Tuesday on eastbound I-44 at the 16.6 mile marker.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Richard R. Nesbit, 70, O'Fallon, drove off the left side of the roadway and struck the cable barrier.
Nesbit was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Deputy Coroner Shawn Woodward. The fatality was the 116th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
