Joplin man charged with murdering Oklahoma prison escapee, bond set at $750,000

On 08-10-17 the Newton County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at 4126 Douglas Fir Road, Joplin Mo. Newton County Detectives believe that the murder of Lanny Holman occurred in a building at this location. 

The scene was processed yesterday with the search continuing into today’s date. Sufficient Probable Cause was developed for Deputies to make an arrest on:

Christopher Michael Jones- a white male 44 years of age. He resides at that address, 4126 Douglas Fir Road. Jones was booked into the Newton County jail at 2008 hours.

The Newton County Prosecutors Office has charged Jones with 1) Murder in the Second Degree 2) Armed Criminal Action. His bond is set at $750,000.

The investigation will continue from this point.

(Note: Holman was a 57-year-old escapee from an Oklahoma Department of Corrections halfway house. His body was found Tuesday at a location south of Joplin.)
