Joplin woman cited for DWI after falling asleep, crashing into culvert

A Joplin woman was cited for driving while intoxicated (drugs) following a one-vehicle accident 3:15 a.m. today on Route E, five miles east of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Kimberly M. Lapping, 38, Joplin, drove off the left side of the roadway and struck a culvert after Lapping went to sleep at the wheel.

Lapping, who was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, was also cited for careless and imprudent driving and driving while suspended.
