(From the Joplin Police Department)

Incident Spotlight

Friday morning at 5:58 a.m. our SWAT team had finished serving a search warrant on the south side of town, and the SWAT Commander stopped at Snak Atak at 4302 South Main for a break.

As he was in his car to leave, he saw a vehicle pull up to a gas pump and a male got out of the driver’s seat. The male started dumping a bag of chips on the ground and pulling paper towels of out the outdoor paper towel dispenser and throwing them on the ground. The officer recognized him to be under the influence of narcotics and ran the plate and saw the registered owner had a warrant.

He approached the male to check on him and see if he was the male with the warrant, and the man threw down his bag and took off running.

After a physical altercation and struggle on the parking lot, the male was taken into custody. He was found to have a felony Newton County warrant, and the bag he threw down contained 23.5 grams of meth and 5 grams of marijuana along with 2 digital scales, individual baggies and other items.
