(From the Newton County Sheriff's Office)
There have been over 30 slide-offs in Newton County since the snow began yesterday, including a MoDOT plow. Many wrecks, several of them with injuries.
Please heed our warning, if you don’t absolutely need to be on the road right now, play it safe and stay home. The forecast appears to be in our favor and it should warm up, melting the icy roads later today.
-INJURY CRASH? Call 911 immediately.
-IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN A SLIDE-OFF, and there are no injuries: Please call our dispatch center (417-451-8333) and let them know what happened. Even if you don’t need assistance from EMS, Fire and Police, if dispatch is aware of the situation, it will keep us from responding unnecessarily when a passerby calls in your vehicle.
-If you see yellow police tape around a vehicle, it has been checked by an officer already.
-The Interstate Highways look great, BUT they still have black ice on them, so drive slower than the speed limit!
