Cause of fire at vacant house at 620 S. Moffett under investigation

The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported fire at a vacant structure, 620 S Moffet Ave., on Sunday, 13 May, at 1:01 PM.

The first crew arrived at 1:05 PM and found a three-story wood framed house with smoke showing from the attic. Firefighters made an interior attack and extinguished the main source of the fire, as well as various hot spots. Crews remained on scene until 3:09 PM.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighting crews.

The Fire Department responded with six apparatus and 14 personnel and was assisted by the Joplin Police Department and METS Ambulance Service.

The cause of fire was is still under investigation by the Joplin Fire Marshal and JPD.

Joplin fire was assisted by Metro Emergency Transport System and Joplin Police Department.

Sunday was a busy Mother’s Day for C shift personnel responding to 30 emergency calls.
