Carthage teen falls asleep, collides with Freightliner on I-44

A Carthage teen was injured in a two-vehicle collision 4 p.m. today on I-44, one mile east of Fidelity.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Dakota R. Meseke, 17, Carthage, driving a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, fell asleep and ran off the side of the highway. When he attempted to regain control and got back onto the highway, he spun around and was struck by a 2016 Freightliner driven by Max O. Wilson, 55, Hooker, Oklahoma.

Meseke was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
