On Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at approximately 19:25 hours officers with the Webb City Police Department were dispatched to 1321 West Fifth Street in Webb City, Missouri in reference to an unresponsive eight-year-old female, later identified as Mariah Martinez from Webb City.
Mariah was found unresponsive in an inflatable pool by family members. Officers arrived to find paramedics with the Webb City Fire Department along with paramedics from the Metro Emergency Transport System already on scene performing CPR. Mariah was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
On Thursday, May 24, 2018, detectives with the Webb City Police Department attended Mariah’s autopsy in Kansas City. The autopsy concluded that Mariah died from an accidental drowning with no signs of trauma. Our condolences go out to Mariah’s family, friends and classmates.
We’d like to take this opportunity to encourage adults to make the time to talk with their children, grandchildren, etc. about safety around water.
