Students from KGCS-TV were recognized during the recent the annual Communication Department Awards ceremony at Missouri Southern State University.
Recipients of the Kolpin Scholarship for 2018-2019 are Kristen Fidler, senior, Carl Junction; and Ashlea Zumwalt, junior, Joplin.
The Kolpin Scholarship in named in honor of Ruth Kolpin-Rubison. It is presented annually to broadcast students at Missouri Southern who meet the criteria, including majoring in broadcast communication with junior or senior status in the upcoming fall semester, enrolled as a full-time student, having a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and a major GPA of at least 3.1.
KGCS also recognized students for contributions made to the station this year. Those awards included:
Certificate of Appreciation: Alexandra Still, senior, Monett
Volunteers of the Year: Raeann Garrison-Law, freshman, Carthage ; and Veronica Gazaway, freshman, Carthage
Producers of the Year: Abby West, junior, Joplin; and Maddy West, junior, Joplin
Program of the Year: “MOSO Update”
Student of the Year: Kate Kelley, senior, Neosho.
KGCS-TV operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern. Students have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on skills in video production and station operations. KGCS programming is broadcast throughout the Joplin area.
