The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office executed a third narcotics search warrant in as many days Thursday afternoon north of Columbus.
Just before 4:00 p.m., investigators served the warrant on Northeast Lawton Road, where they discovered suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and items consistent with the use and distribution of illegal drugs.
“Thursday’s search warrant execution comes as part of an investigation which has been ongoing for the past several months,” stated Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.
The resident of the home, 59-year-old Wayne Getman, was not present at the time of the search, but surrendered to authorities on Friday.
He was booked into the Cherokee County Jail after formal charges of Possessing Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia were filed by the Cherokee County Attorney’s Office.
“Our investigators have been working hard to investigate those responsible for distributing drugs in our community, and hold them accountable. While every case is different, many times they come together more quickly and completely with the assistance of citizens, which is why we encourage anyone who suspects illegal activity of occurring in their neighborhood to contact us. Residents wishing to provide information anonymously can do so at our website, www.cherokeecountykssheriff.com, or by texting 888777. In the message, type ‘tip cherokee’ followed by whatever information you can provide,” concluded Sheriff Groves.
