On January 8, 2019 at approximately 11:40 am; an officer with the Galena Police Department noticed a vehicle that was involved an assault which was reported earlier in the day.
The officer turned to get behind the vehicle at 10th and Joplin Street. The vehicle made a quick turn at 10th and Short Street and the driver jumped out and took off on foot.
As a precautionary measure the Police Department notified the school and placed the school on temporary lockdown.
After a thorough search of the area was conducted, the lockdown was lifted at approximately 2:15 pm. The vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of Downstream Casino on January 7, 2019.
The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released as they become available
