Applications are now available for Joplin Public Library's Teen Summer Volunteer Program. This program takes place during the Library's summer reading program featured in June and July. Training sessions for volunteers will be offered in the latter part of May.
This opportunity is available to teens from ages 14 to 18 years of age. The program is designed to mimic a "real world" job experience for teens who may be entering the workforce for the first time. Volunteers will learn a variety of job skills while supporting the Teen Department's summer reading efforts.
“Teens are sometimes caught in the Catch-22 scenario of applying for a job for the first time, yet lacking the experience that employers are wanting,” said Beth Snow, Teen Services Librarian. “Our teen volunteer program is a great way for them to gain that needed experience employers may be looking for.”
Snow added that the volunteer program is competitive with limited slots available. The program has been offered for several years and she reminds everyone that previous participants will need to reapply.
Applications can be picked up at the Joplin Public Library's Teen Desk. Application deadline is 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 24. Qualified applicants will be called to set up an interview. For more information, contact Beth Snow, Teen Services Librarian at 417-623-7953, ext. 1027.
