More keys to be provided to Jasper School District tornado shelter after Wednesday incident

(From the Jasper Police Department)

Update from This Past Week’s Tornado Warning

This past Wednesday night... tornado sirens sounded and some folks in town made their way to the FEMA built tornado shelter in Godfrey Gym.

There was some confusion and panic and an incident occurred where a window was broken out so people could get inside. A staff member was there or very close, but like we all know, during a stressful situation, things happen.

After talking about the situation with Jasper Schools Superintendent Mrs. Hess, it was decided to get a few extra keys to the shelter to residents who reside close to the shelter.

It’s all about learning from experiences and making things better. You can bet that Jasper R5 Schools and the Jasper PD care about this town and it’s citizens. Hopefully this will serve you all better in the event oc future tornado warnings or severe weather warnings.
