The MSSU Choral Society presents its Spring Concert on Sunday, May 5, 3:00 p.m., at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2423 W. 26th St., Joplin. The chorus is conducted by Dr. Susan Smith, the Director of Vocal Studies at MSSU, and accompanied by Clint Newby.
The well-known and ever popular 60-voice area-wide mixed choir will present a variety of popular music including:
- I Will Extol Thee—George F. Handel, Arr. by Walter Ehret
- Do I Hear a Waltz?—Arr. by John Purifoy, including, Do I Hear a Waltz?, It’s a Grand Night for Singing, Falling in Love with Love, A Wonderful Guy
- Rodgers and Hammerstein On Broadway—Arr. by Mac Huff, including favorite songs from the following musicals: The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, South Pacific, Carousel, The King and I, and State Fair
- The major work presented will be, Spirit Suite—Arr. Mark Hayes, with Tanner Munson, Tenor as Guest Artist. This powerful spiritual suite includes: In That Great Gittin’ Up Mornin’, Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child, and Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel?
The Chorus also will introduce its new signature song which will be performed at all concerts and expresses a hopeful outlook for the world: One Song—Marvin Hamlisch/Alan and Marilyn Bergman, Arr. by Mark Hayes
The concert is free and open to the public and all are welcome.
