Crowder College Technical Center offering career exploration summer camp

(From Crowder College)

The Crowder College Technical Education Center (CTEC) is offering a career exploration camp as a summer option for students attending one of our area schools.

Students grades 6-8 attending Diamond, East Newton, McDonald County, Neosho, and Seneca are on the Neosho campus for summer school. The student will be able to choose from the following programs: Automotive, Alternative Energy, Construction, Computer, and Health Sciences. Each week the student will explore one of their selected programs with hands-on and classroom teaching. Math and Language Arts will be included in the classroom teaching to assist with summer school needs.

Each class has a project that the students study and complete weekly: Automotive – (car racers) ; Alternative Energy – solar ovens; Construction – building bridges and towers; Computers – programming games; and Health Science – studying the digestive system and making their own systems.

“Students are deciding career paths at an earlier age, so we thought this would provide younger ones an opportunity to see a variety of choices,” stated David Webber, Director of Career & Technical Education.

The area sending schools will bus students to Crowder and back to their respective school district location during summer school hours to make this opportunity available.
