Wichita man drowns on Elk River in Noel while attempting to rescue female swimmer

A Wichita man drowned on the Elk River below Low Head Dam at Noel 6:41 p.m. Friday.

According to the Highway Patrol report, an unidentified female swimmer was swept underwater at the dam. Jacob T. Farley, 26, Wichita, Kansas, entered the water downstream to attempt a rescue.

The Noel Fire Department arrived and rescued the female swimmer with a throw rope, but Farley drowned.







McDonald County Coroner B J. Goodwin pronounced Farley dead at the scene at 7:55 p.m.

The drowning was the second for Highway Patrol Troop D in June and the fourth in 2019.
