Joplin woman killed by hit-and-run driver on Douglas Fir Road

 

A Joplin pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident 7:13 p.m. Friday on Douglas Fir Road a half mile south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a Dodge Dakota, year unknown, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck Sheldonna A. Wood, 60, Joplin, then fled the scene.

Wood was pronounced dead by Newton County Coroner Dale Owen.

The fatality was the 49th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
