Saxophonist to perform at Missouri Southern

(From Southern News Service)

Guest saxophonist Nick Zoulek will present a solo recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in Corley Auditorium at Missouri Southern State University.

During the recital, he will perform a selection of modern works, including several with electronic and video accompaniment.

Earlier in the day, Zoulek will be in residence to offer classes that will be open to the public. He will give a composition reading session at 9 a.m. in Room 222 of the Music Department; a master class with Dr. Cheryl Cifelli’s woodwind studio at 2 p.m. in Corley Auditorium; and a master class with Dr. Jeffrey Cunningham’s saxophone studio at 4 p.m. in the auditorium.

Fascinated by the interactive relationship between sound and visuals in the contemporary idiom, Zoulek frequently collaborates with videographers, composers and dancers, finding new outlets of music performance. His work on Anna Weisling and Eric Sheffield's film project, “Arbor,” has been shown at venues across the United States. Recently, he gave the European premiere of saxophone/video works by composers Andrew Cole and J. Anthony Allen.

The concert and classes are free and open to the public.
