Carthage motorcyclist killed, passenger life-flighted to Freeman

A Carthage motorcyclist was killed in a two-vehicle accident 7:14 p.m. Sunday at Jackpine, four miles west of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred when Dale A Rissman, 34, Carthage, driving a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado, attempted a left turn and pulled into the path of a 1982 Yamaha Maxim motorcycle, driven by Christopher D. Sloniker, 34, Carthage.

Sloniker was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:22 p.m. by Jasper County Coroner George Woodward. A passenger on the motorcycle, Dustin J. Campbell, 26, Diamond, was life-flighted to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, with serious injuries.

Rissman suffered minor injuries and a passenger in his car, Royden Pugh, 14, Carthage, suffered serious injuries. Both were taken by private vehicle to Mercy McCune-Brooks, Carthage.

The fatality was the 30th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
