Karen Kostan named outstanding teacher at MSSU

(From Southern News Service)

Dr. Karen Kostan, an associate professor of psychology at Missouri Southern State University, was recognized as Outstanding Teacher during the 62nd commencement ceremonies held Saturday, May 10, in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Students, faculty and alumni submit nominations for the awards, which recognize teachers who have made a positive impact at Missouri Southern.
Dr. Karen Kostan received her bachelor’s degree in psychology, philosophy and zoology from the University of Wisconsin in 1998. She received her master’s in animal behavior from the University of California-Davis in 2002. She joined the Missouri Southern faculty as an assistant professor in 2008.
One of the nominations stated that she is “always willing to go the extra mile to help her students (and with a smile).” Others wrote that she is “a bright light on this campus” and an “excellent teacher who genuinely cares about her students.”
Kostan was honored during the noon commencement ceremony and received an engraved plaque and a $1,000 award from the Missouri Southern Foundation.
