Joplin man charged with DWI after one-vehicle accident

A Joplin man was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle accident 2:31 a.m. Sunday on Highway 43, three miles north of Southwest City.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Jerrod A. Lankford, 38, Joplin, driving a 2003 Dodge Ram, ran off the roadway, struck an embankment and went airborne.

Lankford was taken to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, with moderate injuries.

In addition to DWI, he was charged with careless and imprudent driving leading to an accident, no seatbelt, and no insurance.
