The Student Activities office at Missouri Southern State University recently announced the recipients of several annual awards given to registered student organizations.
The Best Student Organization-Led Philanthropy Award went to Love Your Melon, which is dedicated to fighting cancer. The campus group sponsored a bone marrow drive that brought in 50 new donors. The group also donated 40 blankets to Lafayette House.
The MSSU Mock Trial Team won the award for Best Student Organization-Led Program. The team won awards at every competition this year and took fifth place at a national competition in Oklahoma.
The Emerging Organization of the Year Award was given to the Society of Physics Students. This organization promotes physics by hosting speakers on campus and attending conferences, while incorporating all elements of a college campus through educational programs with the ACTS office.
Kaitlyn Kelly Gonzalez, a junior from Joplin, was named Emerging Leader of the Year. She was nominated for her dedication and commitment to the Society of Physics Students, and for building the organization from the ground up while maintaining momentum and growth.
The Leader of the Year was given to Haley Henry, a senior from Monett with the Love Your Melon group.
Dr. Jency Sundararajan, assistant professor of physics was chosen as Advisor of the Year for her work with the Society of Physics Students.
The Kinesiology Club was selected as Organization of the Year Award. The club, which currently has more than 100 members, worked this year with Watered Gardens and Bright Futures, and had a record number of attendees at the Missouri Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Convention.
