On June 9, 2018 at 2:08 pm Joplin Police responded to Interstate 249 mile marker 0.0 in reference to a shooting.
When officers arrived on scene, there was one male with life threating injuries who was transported to a local hospital. The person believed to be the shooter was still on scene. Investigators were notified and responded to the scene.
The victim in this case is David C Reynolds, 27, last listed address is Carthage, Missouri. He is still in very critical condition at a local hospital. We caution that the information we release is preliminary as the investigation is in its early stages.
This incident is believed to be a “road rage” related incident in which the two males came into contact during the course of driving. Both ended up pulling over to the shoulder of the Interstate where the shooting occurred outside of the vehicles. It is also believed at this time that the two males didn’t know each other before this encounter.
There was also an adult female and young children with Reynolds at the time of the incident. The suspect in this case, Christopher D. Montz, 23, Neosho,(pictured) was just charged today with Assault in the 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action with a $50,000 cash only bond.
He is currently in custody in the Joplin City Jail. Detectives from the Joplin Police Department are still currently working this active investigation.
The Joplin Police Department would like to thank the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Missouri Department of Transportation for their assistance with this incident.
